Environmental regulation, industrial innovation and green development of Chinese manufacturing: Based on an extended CDM model

摘要:
As for the academics and policymakers, more attention has been given to the issue on how to drive green development of the manufacturing through regulations and innovations. We construct the extended Crépon-Duguet-Mairesse (CDM) model and employ the panel data of Chinese manufacturing industries during 2003–2014 to examine the effects of environmental regulation on industrial innovation and green development. The findings reveal that (1) in the long term, environmental regulation has crowded out R&D investment. (2) Environmental regulation has inhibited patent outputs so that the “weak”version of Porter hypothesis is not underpinned. (3) In the short term, environmental regulation has promoted the improvements of labor productivity, energy efficiency and environmental efficiency in the manufacturing industry excluding green total factor productivity (GTFP), whereas in the long term, environmental regulation only has increased energy efficiency while it has obstructed labor productivity, which provides no support for the “strong”version of Porter hypothesis. (4) Different innovation outputs have distinct influences on labor productivity, energy efficiency, environmental efficiency and GTFP. In selecting logistics service providers, the evaluation criteria can be easily prioritized and possibly interrelated with each other, and the assessment of alternatives under qualitative criteria is usually accomplished by more than one decision maker. A novel multicriteria decision-making approach with multihesitant fuzzy linguistic term elements (MHFLTEs) based on the Heronian mean (HM) and prioritized average operators can effectively deal with the problems inherent in such a scenario. Multihesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (MHFLTSs) were proposed on the basis of multihesitant fuzzy sets (MHFSs) and hesitant fuzzy linguistic sets (HFLSs), where each MHFLTE can contain nonconsecutive and repeated linguistic terms. Using MHFLTEs, one decision maker can provide one or several consecutive linguistic terms in evaluating an alternative under one specific criterion, different decision makers' evaluation values can be collected, and the frequency of a linguistic term in the evaluation information can accord with reality. This paper revises the basic operations and comparison method for MHFLTEs on the basis of the originals and defines some multihesitant fuzzy linguistic HM operators for MHFLTEs to deal with problems in which weight information cannot be accurately established for criteria, but their priorities can be provided in groups or without groups. Finally, the validity and effectiveness of the proposed approach are demonstrated through an illustration of a logistics outsourcing problem and a comparison analysis.

Current pharmaceutical research and development (R&D) is a high-risk investment which is usually faced with some unexpected even disastrous failures in different stages of drug discovery. One main reason for R&D failures is the efficacy and safety deficiencies which are related largely to absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) properties and various toxicities (T). Therefore, rapid ADMET evaluation is urgently needed to minimize failures in the drug discovery process. Here, we developed a web-based platform called ADMETlab for systematic ADMET evalua- tion of chemicals based on a comprehensively collected ADMET database consisting of 288,967 entries. Four function modules in the platform enable users to conveniently perform six types of drug-likeness analysis (five rules and one prediction model), 31 ADMET endpoints prediction (basic property: 3, absorption: 6, distribution: 3, metabolism: 10, elimination: 2, toxicity: 7), systematic evaluation and database/similarity searching. We believe that this web platform will hopefully facilitate the drug discovery process by enabling early drug-likeness evaluation, rapid ADMET virtual screening or filtering and prioritization of chemical structures. A novel water-compatible surface molecularly imprinted thiol-functionalized titanium dioxide (TiO<inf>2</inf>) material (CMIP-coated TiO<inf>2</inf>) was prepared in water, using 2, 4-dinitrophenol (2, 4-DNP) as template molecule and o-phenylenediamine (OPDA) as both functional monomer and cross-linker. The as-synthesized materials were characterized by FESEM, FTIR, XRD, BET and UV–vis DRS. Moreover, we have investigated the adsorption capacity, adsorption selectivity and photodegradation activity of the CMIP-coated TiO<inf>2</inf>and non-molecular imprinted materials (CNIP-coated TiO<inf>2</inf>). Additionally, the effects of pH and concentration of 2, 4-DNP on the degradation rate of 2, 4-DNP were also investigated. Results showed that CMIP-coated TiO<inf>2</inf>exhibited higher adsorption capacity, greater selectivity and faster photodegradation activity for 2, 4-DNP compared with the CNIP-coated TiO<inf>2</inf>. Meanwhile, the specific selectivity to 2, 4-DNP over its structural analogue 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) and the enhanced photodegradation capacity were mainly attributed to the imprinted cavities on the surface of CMIP-coated TiO<inf>2</inf>. Taking advantage of efficient removal capacity, high reusability and no-additional chemicals in imprinted process, the prepared materials can be potentially applied to “green”removal of 2, 4-DNP in wastewater.<br/> ©2017 Elsevier B.V.

摘要:
The improvement of regional eco-efficiency is a significant approach to achieve coordinated development of China's economic development and environmental protection, and an effective environmental regulation system is a crucial driver to the improvement of regional eco-efficiency. Based on the panel data of China's 30 provinces during 2000-2013, this paper divides environmental regulation into three types: command-and-control regulation, market-based regulation and voluntary regulation. STIRPAT model is employed to test the effects of these three environmental regulations on eco-efficiency in the eastern, central and western regions of China. Research results turn out that: (1) in the eastern region, market-based and voluntary environmental regulation have a positive impact on eco-efficiency improvement while command-and-control environmental regulation has no significant impact, and (2) in the central region, command-and-control and market-based environmental regulation can promote eco-efficiency more significantly compared with voluntary environmental regulation, and (3) in the western region, command-and-control environmental regulation plays a positive role in eco-efficiency improvement whilst market-based and voluntary environmental regulation have no significant impacts. These findings indicate that the effects of different types of environmental regulation on eco-efficiency apparently differ in regions. Finally, to optimize and adjust the environmental regulation tools, policy recommendations targeting different regions are concluded. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

摘要:
The study of cost-efficient and high-performance electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) has attracted much attention. Here, porous microrod arrays constructed by carbon-confined NiCo@NiCoO2 core@shell nanoparticles (NiCo@NiCoO2/C PMRAs) are fabricated by the reductive carbonization of bimetallic (Ni, Co) metal–organic framework microrod arrays (denoted as NiCo-MOF MRAs) and subsequent controlled oxidative calcination. They successfully combine the desired merits including large specific surface areas, high conductivity, and multiple electrocatalytic active sites for OER. In addition, the oxygen vacancies in NiCo@NiCoO2/C PMRAs significantly improve the conductivity of NiCoO2 and accelerate the kinetics of OER. The above advantages obviously enhance the electrocatalytic performance of NiCo@NiCoO2/C PMRAs. The experimental results demonstrate that the NiCo@NiCoO2/C PMRAs as electrocatalysts exhibit high catalytic activity, low overpotential, and high stability for OER in alkaline media. The strategy reported will open up a new route for the fabrication of porous bimetallic composite electrocatalysts derived from MOFs with controllable morphology for electrochemical energy conversion devices. © 2018 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Reactive oxygen species-induced vessel endothelium injury is crucial in cardiovascular diseases progression. Rice-derived bran bioactive peptides (RBAP) might exert antioxidant effect through unknown mechanisms. Herein, we validated the antioxidant effect and mechanism of RBAP on H<inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf>-induced oxidative injury in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Here, HUVECs were treated with RBAP under H<inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf>stimulation;the effects of RBAP on HUVECs oxidative injury were evaluated. H<inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf>injury-induced cell morphology changes were ameliorated by RBAP. The effect of H<inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf>- on HUVEC apoptosis (percentage of apoptotic cell: 38.00 ±2.00 in H<inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf>group vs 21.07 ±2.06 in RBAP + H<inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf>group, P = 0.0013 compared to H<inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf>group), the protein levels of cleaved caspase-3 (relative protein expression: 2.90 ±0.10 in H<inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf>group vs 1.82 ±0.09 in RBAP + H<inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf>group, P <0.0001 compared to H<inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf>group) and p-p65 (relative protein expression: 1.86 ±0.09 in H<inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf>group vs 1.35 ±0.08 in RBAP + H<inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf>group, P <0.0001 compared to H<inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf>group) could be attenuated by RBAP. RBAP exerts its protective function through binding with Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4). Taken together, RBAP protects HUVECs against H<inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf>-induced oxidant injury, which provided the theoretical basis for the molecular mechanism of rice deep processing and exploitation of functional peptides.<br/> ©2017 American Chemical Society.

Biodiversity experiments have shown that species loss reduces ecosystem functioning in grassland. To test whether this result can be extrapolated to forests, the main contributors to terrestrial primary productivity, requires large-scale experiments.We manipulated tree species richness by planting more than 150,000 trees in plots with 1 to 16 species. Simulating multiple extinction scenarios, we found that richness strongly increased stand-level productivity. After 8 years, 16-species mixtures had accumulated over twice the amount of carbon found in average monocultures and similar amounts as those of two commercial monocultures. Species richness effects were strongly associated with functional and phylogenetic diversity. A shrub addition treatment reduced tree productivity, but this reduction was smaller at high shrub species richness. Our results encourage multispecies afforestation strategies to restore biodiversity and mitigate climate change. © 2018 The Authors.

摘要:
Remediation of heavy metal–contaminated soil and water bodies necessitates the continuous development of effective decontamination techniques. To address this issue, ferromanganese binary oxide–biochar composites (FMBC) were prepared using impregnation/sintering methods, and their physicochemical properties and morphologies were examined. Kinetic modeling and adsorption isotherms were used to characterize the adsorption of Cu(II) and Cd(II) on FMBC, revealing that adsorption was well represented by pseudo-second-order kinetics (R<sup>2</sup>>0.99) and the Langmuir isotherm model. The prepared FMBC exhibited maximum Cu(II) and Cd(II) adsorption capacities of 64.9 and 101.0 mg/g, respectively, exceeding the corresponding values of biochar (21.7 and 28.0 mg/g, respectively). Moreover, adsorption was favored by increased pH and high humic acid concentration. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared analyses confirmed that the heavy metal ions adsorbed on FMBC were divalent, indicating that the uptake of Cu(II) and Cd(II) was mainly due to the formation of strong mono- or multidentate inner-sphere complexes (e.g., COO–M (M = Cu or Cd) and Fe–Mn–O–M). Thus, the prepared composites exhibited potential applications as excellent adsorbents for Cu(II) and Cd(II) removal from contaminated water. ©2017 Elsevier B.V.

摘要:
The crude oil volatility index (OVX) is a direct and more accurate measure of oil price uncertainty. This paper uses this kind of implied volatility index of oil prices to investigate the impacts of oil price uncertainty on the aggregate and sectoral stock returns in China. This issue is resolved by using a quantile regression, which can provide a more detailed examination under different market conditions. Meanwhile, the asymmetric effects of uncertainty shocks are also examined by using the positive and negative changes of the OVX. Furthermore, we assess whether the reform of March 27, 2013 affected the OVX-stock nexus since this reform was a major step to relax the control of domestic oil prices in China. Our results reveal that OVX changes mainly show significantly negative effects on the aggregate and sectoral stock returns in the bearish market. In particular, these effects depend largely on the positive shocks of the OVX rather than the negative shocks of the OVX. Moreover, the reform of March 27, 2013 decreased the impacts of the positive OVX shocks on Chinese stock returns. © 2018 Elsevier B.V.

Metal sulfides for hydrogen evolution catalysis typically suffer from unfavorable hydrogen desorption properties due to the strong interaction between the adsorbed H and the intensely electronegative sulfur. Here, we demonstrate a general strategy to improve the hydrogen evolution catalysis of metal sulfides by modulating the surface electron densities. The N modulated NiCo2S4 nanowire arrays exhibit an overpotential of 41 mV at 10 mA cm-2 and a Tafel slope of 37 mV dec-1, which are very close to the performance of the benchmark Pt/C in alkaline condition. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, synchrotron-based X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and density functional theory studies consistently confirm the surface electron densities of NiCo2S4 have been effectively manipulated by N doping. The capability to modulate the electron densities of the catalytic sites could provide valuable insights for the rational design of highly efficient catalysts for hydrogen evolution and beyond. © 2018 The Author(s).

摘要:
Endowing materials with specific functions that are not readily available is always of great importance, but extremely challenging. Co4N, with its beneficial metallic characteristics, has been proved to be highly active for the oxidation of water, while it is notoriously poor for catalyzing the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), because of its unfavorable d-band energy level. Herein, we successfully endow Co4N with prominent HER catalytic capability by tailoring the positions of the d-band center through transition-metal doping. The V-doped Co4N nanosheets display an overpotential of 37 mV at 10 mA cm−2, which is substantially better than Co4N and even close to the benchmark Pt/C catalysts. XANES, UPS, and DFT calculations consistently reveal the enhanced performance is attributed to the downshift of the d-band center, which helps facilitate the H desorption. This concept could provide valuable insights into the design of other catalysts for HER and beyond.

Background: The human gastrointestinal tract harbors hundreds of millions of microorganisms, which create a unique environment for each individual. The relationship between gut microflora and human health is being increasingly recognized, and the influence of gut microbiota on the host is well characterized, including maintenance of the body's energy metabolism and immune system. Gut microbiota have been found to be closely linked to obesity, allergy, diabetes, cancer or even some mental diseases. Diet can strongly affect human health, partly by modulating gut microbial composition and quantity. Scope and Approach: In this review, the relationship between diseases and gut microbes and the effect of different dietary components on gut microflora are summarized. This paper mainly focused on how different diet structure such as high intake of dietary fiber, fat, protein and alcohol etc. may exert impact on specific diseases via gut microflora. Key findings and conclusions: Specific diseases can be strongly affected by gut microflora and dietary nutrition plays an important role in affecting the composition of gut microflora for individuals since their birth. A bridge between diets and multiple diseases via gut microbiota is built in this review, hopefully to provide references for further investigation of how the diets affect human health via gut microflora and for development of functional foods targeting on gut microflora to solve some health problems. © 2018 Elsevier Ltd

3d transition metals or their derivatives encapsulated in nitrogen-doped nanocarbon show promising potential in non-precious metal oxygen electrocatalysts. Herein, we describe the simple construction of a bifunctional oxygen electrocatalyst with a "framework-active sites" structure, namely Fe/Fe3[email protected] ([email protected]) nanoparticles encapsulated in 3D N-doped graphene and bamboo-like CNTs ([email protected]/NCNTs). The [email protected] structure provides additional electrons on the carbon surface, promoting the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) on adjacent Fe-Nx active sites. The 3D NG hybrid with a bamboo-like CNTs framework facilitates fast reactant diffusion and rapid electron transfer. The optimized sample displays excellent ORR and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity, with a potential difference of only 0.84 V; this places it among the best bifunctional ORR/OER electrocatalysts. Most importantly, Zn-air batteries using [email protected]/NCNTs as the cathode catalyst deliver a peak power density of 101.2 mW cm-2 and a specific capacity of 682.6 mA h g-1 (energy density of 764.5 W h kg-1). After 297 continuous cycle tests (99 h), the rechargeable batteries using [email protected]/NCNTs show a voltage gap increase of only 0.13 V, almost half that of Pt/C + Ir/C (0.22 V) under the same conditions. This work provides new insight into advanced electrocatalysts utilizing the structural features of host nanocarbon materials and guest active species toward energy conversion. © 2018 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Identification of catalytic sites for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in carbon materials remains a great challenge. Here, we construct a pyridinic-N-dominated doped graphene with abundant vacancy defects. The optimized sample with an ultrahigh pore volume (3.43 cm3 g–1) exhibits unprecedented ORR activity with a half-wave potential of 0.85 V in alkaline. For the first time, density functional theory results indicate that the quadri-pyridinic N-doped carbon site synergized with a vacancy defect is the active site, which presents the lowest overpotential of 0.28 V for ORR and 0.28 V for OER. The primary Zn–air batteries display a maximum power density of 115.2 mW cm–2 and an energy density as high as 872.3 Wh kg–1. The rechargeable Zn–air batteries illustrate a low discharge–charge overpotential and high stability (>78 h). This work provides new insight into the correlation between the N configuration synergized with a vacancy defect in electrocatalysis. Copyright © 2018 American Chemical Society

This paper focuses on the maximum and minimum solutions for a fractional order differential system, involving a p-Laplacian operator and nonlocal boundary conditions, which arises from many complex processes such as ecological economy phenomena and diffusive interaction. By introducing new type growth conditions and using the monotone iterative technique, some new results about the existence of maximal and minimal solutions for a fractional order differential system is established, and the estimation of the lower and upper bounds of the maximum and minimum solutions is also derived. In addition, the iterative schemes starting from some explicit initial values and converging to the exact maximum and minimum solutions are also constructed. © 2017, The Author(s).

Hyperlipidemia occurs very often in modern society along with a high calorie intake and is regarded as one of the greatest risk factors for the prevalence of cardiac vascular disease (CVD). In this study, we investigated the anti-hyperlipidemic effect of the rice bran polysaccharides (RBP) and its mechanism in a high fat diet animal model. 60 ICR mice were randomly divided into 3 groups, which included Control, HFD (high fat diet) and HFD + RBP, and each group included 20 mice. The control group was fed with a standard diet while the other two groups were fed with HFD. In addition, the HFD + RBP group was fed with 500 mg kg-1 of rice bran polysaccharides by intragastric administration while the other two groups were intragastrically administered with water. The results showed that RBP treatment for 10 weeks obviously decreased the body weight, liver weight and adipose tissues of mice; and it decreased the levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG) and low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-c) in the plasma. H&E staining of the liver tissues showed that RBP treatment decreased the size of fat droplets compared with the HFD group. Microarray analysis revealed that RBP treatment results in 80 genes being up-regulated while 72 genes were down-regulated in the tissues of liver. IPA software analysis suggested that NF-κB may play a vital role in the lipid-lowering effect of RBP. Real-time quantitative PCR confirmed that the mRNA levels of PPAR-α, PPAR-γ, PPAR-δ, SREBP-1C, FASN, ACC, SIRT and CD36, which are related to lipid metabolism, were significantly regulated by RBP supplementation compared to HFD. The western blot analysis further confirmed these altered expressions after RBP treatment. Taken together, these results suggest that the oral administration of RBP exerts lipid-lowering in high fat diet mice via regulating the lipid metabolism-related gene expression. © 2017 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

A novel adsorbent, namely, beta-cyclodextrin/poly (L-glutamic acid) supported magnetic graphene oxide (CGMG), was synthesized through a facile chemical route and its application as excellent adsorbent for 17 beta-estradiol (E2) removal from aqueous solution was also demonstrated. The characteristics of CGMG were investigated via using Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectra, X-ray diffraction, vibrating sample magnetometer and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area, respectively. Results indicated that CGMG was successfully prepared and the saturated magnetization could reach up to 0.09043 emu/mg. Meanwhile, investigation of adsorption behavior illustrated that the adsorption process could be better fitted by the pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models. Analysis of intraparticle diffusion model demonstrated that intraparticle diffusion was not the only rate-limiting step; however, both film diffusion and intraparticle diffusion were involved in the diffusion process. Thermodynamic study indicated that adsorption of E2 onto CGMG was spontaneous and endothermic. The E2 uptake by CGMG decreased in high pH values. However, it was insensitive to ionic strength variation (0.0-0.1 M). Moreover, the regeneration experiments illustrated that CGMG could be recovered, and it showed good recycling ability with ca. 88.7% of the initial sorption capacity after being used for sixth cycles. Advanced flexible batteries with high energy density and long cycle life are an important research target. Herein, the first paradigm of a high-performance and stable flexible rechargeable quasi-solid-state Zn–MnO2 battery is constructed by engineering MnO2 electrodes and gel electrolyte. Benefiting from a poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) buffer layer and a Mn2+-based neutral electrolyte, the fabricated Zn–MnO2@PEDOT battery presents a remarkable capacity of 366.6 mA h g−1 and good cycling performance (83.7% after 300 cycles) in aqueous electrolyte. More importantly, when using PVA/ZnCl2/MnSO4 gel as electrolyte, the as-fabricated quasi-solid-state Zn–MnO2@PEDOT battery remains highly rechargeable, maintaining more than 77.7% of its initial capacity and nearly 100% Coulombic efficiency after 300 cycles. Moreover, this flexible quasi-solid-state Zn–MnO2 battery achieves an admirable energy density of 504.9 W h kg−1 (33.95 mW h cm−3), together with a peak power density of 8.6 kW kg−1, substantially higher than most recently reported flexible energy-storage devices. With the merits of impressive energy density and durability, this highly flexible rechargeable Zn–MnO2 battery opens new opportunities for powering portable and wearable electronics. © 2017 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Rice grain with excessive cadmium (Cd) is a major source of dietary Cd intake and a serious threat to health for people who consume rice as a staple food. The development of elite rice cultivars with consistently low Cd content is challenging for conventional breeding approaches, and new strategies urgently need to be developed. Here, we report the development of new indica rice lines with low Cd accumulation and no transgenes by knocking out the metal transporter gene OsNramp5 using CRISPR/Cas9 system. Hydroponic culture showed that Cd concentrations in shoots and roots of osnramp5 mutants were dramatically decreased, resulting in rescue of impaired growth in high Cd condition. Cd-contaminated paddy field trials demonstrated that Cd concentration in osnramp5 grains was consistently less than 0.05 mg/kg, in contrast to high Cd concentrations from 0.33 mg/kg to 2.90 mg/kg in grains of Huazhan (the wild-type indica rice). In particular, the plant yield was not significantly affected in osnramp5 mutants. Furthermore, we developed promising hybrid rice lines with extremely low Cd content in grains. Our work supplies a practical approach to developing Cd pollution-safe indica rice cultivars that minimizes Cd contamination risk in grains.
