<jats:p>Type-2 fuzzy sets (T2FSs) are the extension of type-1 fuzzy sets (T1FSs),
which can convey more uncertainty information in solving multi-criteria
decision-making (MCDM) problems. Motivated by the extension from interval
numbers to triangular fuzzy numbers, three-trapezoidal-fuzzy-number-bounded
type-2 fuzzy numbers (TT2FNs) are defined on the basis of interval type-2
trapezoidal fuzzy numbers (IT2TFNs), and they can convey more uncertainty
information than T1FSs and IT2FSs. Moreover, the drawbacks of the existing
computational models of generalized fuzzy numbers are analyzed, and a new
computational model of fuzzy numbers is proposed, which is further extended
to TT2FNs. Besides, a MCDM method is proposed to deal with the evaluation
information given in the form of TT2FNs. Finally, an illustrative example
and comparison analysis are provided to demonstrate the feasibility and
validity of the proposed method.</jats:p>

In this paper, a likelihood-based TODIM approach based on multi-hesitant fuzzy linguistic information is developed for the selection and evaluation of contractors in logistics outsourcing. First, various definitions and operations related to hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (HFLTSs) and hesitant fuzzy linguistic sets (HFLSs) are discussed. Next, the definition of multi-hesitant linguistic term sets (MHFLTSs) is reviewed, which can eliminate the limitations associated with HFLTSs and HFLSs as well as emphasize the significance of repeated values. Then, a likelihood function is developed for multi-hesitant fuzzy linguistic term elements (MHFLTEs) based on a generalized function of the possibility degree of real numbers. Using this generalized function based on linguistic scale functions, alternatives that satisfy certain properties can be selected according to various semantic situations and the preferences of decision makers. Finally, the likelihood function of MHFLTEs is embedded into TODIM to address decision-making problems in which decision makers exhibit bounded rationality, and hesitance and repetitiveness exist in the linguistic evaluation information. According to the results of the illustrative examples and comparative analysis, the proposed approach can be used to effectively solve multi-criteria decision making problems involving the selection and evaluation of third-party logistics service providers. In this paper, a new approach is presented for solving multi-criteria group decision-making (MCGDM) problems, which is based on new arithmetic operations and the ranking rules of trapezoidal interval type-2 fuzzy numbers (IT2FNs). Firstly, the shortcomings of some existing arithmetic operations of trapezoidal IT2FNs are discussed along with their ranking methods, before some new arithmetic operations and ranking rules are proposed. Secondly, some new aggregation operators including the arithmetic averaging aggregation operator, the ordered weighted averaging aggregation operator and the hybrid weighted averaging aggregation operator for trapezoidal IT2FNs are also developed. Thirdly, a new approach for MCGDM problems is developed based on the proposed operators and ranking rules. Finally, an example is provided to illustrate the feasibility and validity of this new approach, and a comparison analysis referring to the same example is also presented.

Hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (HFLTSs) are introduced to express the hesitance existing in linguistic evaluation as clearly as possible. However, most existing methods using HFLTSs simply rely on the labels or intervals of linguistic terms, which may lead to information distortion and/or loss. To avoid this problem, linguistic scale functions are employed in this paper to conduct the transformation between qualitative information and quantitative data. Moreover, the directional Hausdorff distance, which uses HFLTSs, is also proposed and the dominance relations are subsequently defined using this distance. An outranking approach, similar to the ELECTRE method, is constructed for ranking alternatives in multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problems, and the approach is demonstrated using a numerical example related to supply chain management. Because of the inherent features of the directional Hausdorff distance and the defined dominance relations, this approach can effectively and efficiently overcome the hidden drawbacks that may hamper the use of HFLTSs. Finally, the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed approach is further tested through sensitivity and comparative analyses. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
