The subdomain model for analytical calculation of magnetic field is widely developed to predict electromagnetic performance in permanent magnet ( PM) machines. Based on the principle of the mutual flux through the stator windings due to step-skewed PMs identical to that from equivalent non-skewed PMs, a 2D subdomain model of surface-mounted PM machines accounting for step-skewed magnets is proposed. By resolving the analytical expressions of the equivalent PMs subdomain, the 3D problem of step-skewed magnets along axis is simplified to a 2D problem, which saves the computational resources and ...
