现代乡村家具设计在继承传统和接受工业文明的“合理化”过程中，主要因为市场逐利行为的强力介入出现了设计的理性异化，引发了现代乡村家具设计的危机，造成了乡村生态、社会、文化等方面的问题。本文以马克斯·韦伯的“理性理论”为分析框架，认为现代乡村家具设计必须从乡村生活的需要出发，把握乡村的内在价值，重建现代乡村家具设计价值理性，为此提出了符合现代乡村家具设计的价值观、设计原则和评价方法，以指导现代乡村家具设计的设计实践。
