晚明在中国历史上的一个特殊时期,这一时期政局腐朽动荡、经济发展繁荣、文化交流密切,郁不得志的江南文人士大夫们积极参与到私家园林设计及家具的艺术创作之中,将文士特有的文质融入到江南私家园林建筑与明式家具之中,为这两个建筑与家具历史上的高峰做出了巨大贡献。
