Lignocellulose biomass is the new ideal feedstock for ethanol production as the renewable liquid fuel for transportation. The pivotal step of ethanol production from lignocellulose is the degradation of lignocellulosic materials to monomeric sugars through the concerted action of cellulolytic enzymes. In order to search for more efficient lignocellulose-degrading microorganisms and their enzymes, strains from humus soil samples of Gaoligong Mountains State Nature Reserve, Yunnan province, China, were isolated and purified.
