F· Scott 菲茨杰拉德是美国文坛二十世纪三、四十年代现代派纪实作家的代表人物.他既写长篇又写短篇,其长篇光辉灿烂,享誉欧美大陆;可其短篇却缩在长篇的阴影下,始终得不到重视.究其原因,除了作者本身看轻自己的短篇之外,主要是他在不经意之中所创造的独特短篇小说形式 (即短篇压缩模式) 与当时流行的小说形式完全不同,因此不被读者和批评家所接受.作者通过大量阅读和详尽分析,挖掘出这一鲜活的独特模式,希冀能对我国外国文学的学习与研究有所裨益.

F·Scott Fitzgerald was an outstanding figure, among the American modernist writers in the 1930 s and 40 s, who wrote both novels and short stories. While his novels were hurled by readers and critics, his short stories remained under the shadow of the novels and little noticed. Not that his short stories were unworthy, but that he himself more often despised than appreciated them, and that what accounts for this critical neglect is the compressed short-story form he created unknowingly during their writing.
