Based on the analysis of the relationship between ecotourism and nature reserves, this paper discusses the characteristics of the ecotourism resources of Southern Dongting Lake Marshland and Water fowl Nature Reserve. It puts forward 7 principles for the development of the ecotourism ,3 of which are especially emphasized: sustainable development; maximum participation of the local people and the limit leakage; and partnership with the specialists.
